Yarn Feast!

I got this weird idea from Brenda, and I thought it was so funny I had to imitate (after all, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"!) My pictures aren't as artistic as hers, but I have laundry to do, so I have to hurry through this multi-course meal.

For starters we have a nice crispy bread, lightly toasted and buttered.
(Knit Picks Memories in "S'mores"; 100% merino wool)After that comes the inevitable vegetable plate, which in this case is sauteed spinach. Mmmm, not too bad!
(Knit Picks Memories in "Cape Cod"; 100% merino wool)Following this plate is a lovely, rare steak, cooked to perfection and lightly braised.
(Knit Picks Memories in "Redwood Forest"; 100% merino wool)To chase away the taste of the heavier food, we have here fresh spring water captured from a clear pool in the Andes
(Knit Picks Memories in "Yukon Memories"; 100% merino wool)Then, for the piece de resistance comes the desserts! Yes, not one, but TWO! Berry cobbler for your dining pleasure,
(Knit Picks Memories in "Rocky Mountain Dusk"; 100% merino wool)
and a grape sorbet to cleanse the palette. Ahhh, what a relaxing meal!
(Knit Picks Crayon in "Periwinkle"; 100% Pima Cotton; planning to knit this with it.)
Okay, enough with the silliness, I know! It's just that this is my first mail-order yarn (gasp!), and I'm really happy with it. I got it all at Knit Picks for around $45, so I didn't have to pay shipping. Also, the yarn was on clearance, so I think I got a good deal.

Just a question for you more advanced knitters; can I knit socks out of 100% merino wool? I mean, I know that I can, but is it advisable? Will they hold up? I've knit socks before out of 100% acrylic, and they only lasted about 2 weeks. I really don't want that to happen with my lovely new yarn, so any help would be much appreciated!

Great yarn, yummy colors!! I'm not an experienced sock knitter at all, but I know a few online and all they use is mostly 100% wool. Their socks last and last, and that's all they want to wear. No more store bought socks for them! So go for it, your wool ones will hold up great. I suppose that it's hand wash only though.

Btw, the kauni yarn is self striping because of the very long color repeats in the yarn. That's what drew me to it. I bet you could knit this fair-isle pattern, it's simple!!

I got a lot of the same yummy yarn. Don't you just love that smore color?

Being a sock knitter let me jump right in and say yes you can knit socks with 100% wool. In order to make them last a long time you need to knit on size 0, 1 or 2 needles (tight gauge = denser fabric = longer wear.)You can also add wooly nylon then you knit the heel, foot, and toe since those are the parts that tend to wear the most.

100% wool socks are great but you have to remember to pull them out of the regular wash and either hand wash and dry or machine wash on a delicate cycle in cold water and then lay them flat to dry after.

Personally, I never knit in anything that can't go in the washer/dryer since I know my hubby will forget and my hard work will turn into a barbie sock.

Delicious looking yarn dinner! I especially like the meat course--such lovely colors!

With 100% merino sock yarn, I either hand wash or use the delicate cycle of my machine on COLD. I've felted 2 pairs that accidentally went through a warm water, regular agitation wash. It was very sad--so learn from my mistake, because they make a very comfortable sock.

Burp...excuse me! :) I love these yarns. I am going through crochet craziness right now. I hope to put up the squares I completed soon. I am a bit frustrated with pieces squares together, though...I am not sure how long this will last...I may go to one continuous pattern instead of squares. we'll see. :)

Lovely multi-course meal! Looks delicious! re: the socks, I've knit merino socks and I don't wear them too often because I'm afraid to wear them out. Some people use nylon reinforcement yarn.
