Spring Dress for Boo

Although I've still be doing a bit of knitting here and there, for some reason I've had this burning desire lately to sew. I have a hard time sticking to one particular craft for too long, and although knitting will always be something viscerally attached to my crafting heart, it's been nice to stretch the ol' sewing machine limits for a change.
I made this little dress for Miss Boo from 1 1/2 yards of fabric that I already had on hand. My friend Elise gave me a great tip for getting free stained sheets from local hotels (just cut out any stained sections and bleach the beegeebers out of 'em), so I used that fabric as the lining and underskirt.

This dress was supposed to have a zipper in the back, but 1) I didn't have a zipper handy, 2) it was too late at night to run out to buy a zipper, and 3) I was too cheap to buy a $1.50 zipper. So, I rummaged through my button stash and managed to scrounge up four perfect little buttons.
I think it turned out better than a zipper would have, and I love how the bow looks in the back as well!

Whenever I sew a dress for Miss Boo, I try to stick to something sleeveless. That way, she can wear a shirt underneath for cooler temperatures, or wear it without an undershirt during the summer when it's warmer. I sewed this dress a size larger than she currently wears, so it should work for her for another season at least. Versatility is a must for growing children. And patience. And chocolate.

She seems very happy with her "flouncy dress". The best compliment for a handmade gift is that she wears it willingly whenever I let her dress up!

Beautiful!!! You make me want to dust off my machine and do some sewing! It's been far too long. Love the dress -- and she's super cute in it! :)

What cute spring fabric! I love the ruffles on the bottom, too. I cannot wait for warm spring weather.
