Blogging Etiquette

Alright, I realize that I'm not the most sophisticated lady in the world, but I do think manners are the basic foundation of any good society. (Oh dear, now I'm reverting to "Jane Austen" language . . .) I have had several conversations with other members of the blogging community, and I think that perhaps a list of etiquette do's and do nots are in order. If you are a blog member, and agree with these manners, please copy this and paste it into your blog. Perhaps good manners will spread!
  • Leave a comment every time thou readest a post. If thou art so cursed as to have a slow dial-up, thou shalt fulfill thy duties at least once a week and leave a comment.
  • Do thy best to respond to definitive questions left in thy comments box. This stern injunction is to the blog-holder.
  • If thou disagreeth with a blog, or comest upon a blog that thou dost not like, thou shalt simply refrain from viewing that blog further, and thou will not descend to petty complaints in the comment box.
  • Aid thy fellow bloggers by leaving helpful links to items in thy post (i.e. where did the yarn come from, or where did you find that pattern.)
  • Thy comments shalt be positive in nature.
  • Be so craven of nature as to hide behind anonymity. Thou must reveal thy true nature by identifying thyself.
  • Leave negative writ effacing thy neighbor's blog.
  • Steal thy blog-neighbor's free patterns. Credit must be given where credit is due.
These commandments were suggested by Yarn Over.

K...I read it and now I'm commenting. See how boring it is when i don't really have anything to say??

I too, have read and am commenting... ;) No disagreement from me.

(But one must ask... surely people are not taking credit for your patterns? -Oh, that kind of thing does upset me!)

I know what you mean! Comments can be very encouraging and inspiring to a blogger!!! I like your commandments! :)

Even just knowing people are actually reading your blog lets you know that you are doing for a reason right? It's not just hanging there on the internet for no reason right?

My 2c: Even if I had a blog, I don't think I would or could ask visitors to comment on every visit. I do think occasional comments should be ...um... expected, but not required. Mostly, us regular readers are nodding agreeably and don't really have a lot to add. Nor do I think the blogger is required to answer comments necessarily, so you get a pass from me! End 2c!

Hi Rachel,

If you wish to participate in ISE 5, you can send us an email requesting to be put on the waiting list to isehostesses at gmail dot com with ISE 5 in the subject line.

We will add you to the waiting list and send you an e-mail when we are ready to start up again. You should occasionally drop in on the main blog just to check in since sometimes our e-mails get kicked and people don't get them.

Does this count as a comment? ;)

So, where's the appropriate place to answer specific questions that are asked in a comment? Your comments on my blog always come with that automated "no-reply" thing in the email address, so I don't know how to get back to you!
