Help, Please?

My vacuum cleaner recently broke, and I need to replace it with a new one. Since I'm assuming that everyone who reads this blog owns a vacuum cleaner, can you give me some advice? My house is two storeys, so I need a vacuum that's not too heavy. Other than that, I just want one that works well and isn't too expensive. Please just leave a comment telling me what kind of vacuum you have, and if you like it or not. That'd be a great help!

I'm afraid I'm not much help... we're still using the one Matt had when we got married... which I guess is pretty good since it's been 8+ yrs and it's working great! It's a Eureka upright. I love it. -Best of luck!!

I'm super hard on vacuums!! I have had lots of them, I personally like canisters the best. Right now I have a Hoover Windtunnel canister that I like, because it has a button that gives you an option for carpeted or bare floors. It's pretty light, and small too. I was lucky and got it on sale when K's Merchandise when out of business. That's my 2 cents :)

We have had Red Devil's the past few years...we've been pretty happy with them. With your wood floors downstairs...I would just get a light sweeper type for the downstairs (those are pretty inexpensive)..I would keep the more expensive (Upright canister) one upstairs.

I have a Kenmore canister vacuum. I prefer canister to up-right vacuums, as they have more vacuuming power, however some people don't like the tank following behind. The Kenmore has been very reliable.

you've misspelled "stories" :) your house is two "stories" not "storeys"

(from your anal retentive spell check sister who has no clue about vacuum cleaners and is almost as blogless as your friend Lynn (cool name), but wants to get on here to give you a hard time b/c she can, only sisters can do that) :P

yes I must post blog asap...I will try to do this after work today

When we moved into our house, we got a Dyson which I love... They can be pricey though... Good luck!

Hi!I just surfed in here admiring your knitting!I used to work in small appliances, selling vacuums from cheapies to very expensive Electrolux and Dysons. Customers liked their Dysons, but they are expensive and bulky. They do come with a very long hose so you don't have to move it much-and comes w/ a very good guarantee!I suggest you visit a store where you can plug in machines and push them around. Make sure it has the on-board tool holder. Right now I have a Kenmore Quick Clean-love it to death and cost less than $100. I was a traitor and didn't buy it at my own store! The secret to keeping your vac happy is keep the filters clean. I prefer the cup that empties because you can see the muck- also keep a clean paintbrush and take the HEPA filter outside and brush it off every couple weeks- messy job but really prolongs the filter life! Some customers get 2 less expensive vacs, like a Hoover Tempo ($69!) and keep one upstairs/one down. Good luck!-Dorie from Maryland, USA
