A New Wardrobe

As most mothers of multiple children will attest, at some point in time in the family expansion series, one stops shopping for oneself. Pretty soon the normal, decently-if-not-slightly-trendy woman will turn into a jeans and t-shirt wearing freak of nature that is on the cusp of living full time in sweatpants and jumpsuit.

I can attest to this, because I had joined their ranks.
Enter my friend Esther, a mother of one (and so unfamiliar and unable to completely empathize with my status of frumpy mother of three) and one of the fashionistas of my set. She's a manager at Maurices, one of my favorite stores in my little town. (Before you raise your eyes in puzzlement, let me explain that we have three clothing stores in our town, all of which could fit in your local grocery store and have room to spare.)

Esther related to me the amazing and life-changing news that Maurices does this thing called a Splurge, in which a woman in need of help can have the store open an extra hour just for herself and five friends. The hostess (the woman in need of help) gets 30% off of everything in the store, and the five friends (women there for moral support in case things get ugly between the hostess and the flirty skirt on aisle three) get 15% off of everything.

Look at me, I'm shopping and no kids are in the building!!!!

I had a blast. I have a whole new wardrobe, along with a sassy attitude and slightly more confidence when I poke my head out into public places.

(Okay, so the sassiness came with birth. Family members can just shut up now and quit snickering.)
