When the little girls arrived, the first thing I did was give them their own "makeover" of whiskers using my black eyeliner. Gabe, true to the form set by younger siblings everywhere, insisted on being included.
I also had several different Hello Kitty coloring pages for the kids to color while I finished the final bits of the entertainment setup.
I am very much a creature of habit (and rather limited imagination) so every birthday party has some sort of theme off of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey". In this case, it was "Pin the Bow on Hello Kitty". Hello Kitty was easier to draw than I expected, despite the fact that I am an artist en par with a toddler.
I cut out plenty of bows for each of the kids, and used poster putty on the back to allow the kids to stick the bow onto the drawing.
Next on the agenda was the prerequisite nail painting salon. I had two different colors of pink and a purple for the girls to choose from, along with cute little nail stickers for them to affix onto their dried nails. As I mentioned in a previous paragraph, Gabe also insisted on being included in this activity as well. I am going to remind him of this when he is thirteen and driving me crazy.
I decided not to make an overtly Hello Kitty cake. I'm sorry to say this was not for any aesthetic reasons, but because I wasn't really in the mood to go to all that work. Instead Miss Boo got a white cake with raspberry filling and flowers of an indeterminate pukey purple on the top.
She didn't seem to mind.
After the cake was consumed, the girls gave Boo her presents, which were ooohed and aaahhed over.
Finally, before all the guest left, they got to collect their goody boxes. I purchased the boxes (4/$2) at Walmart and filled them with assorted things I found in Wal-mart's party aisle.
Everyone knows a fashionable Kitty wears the coolest sunglasses and jewelry. To add a homemade touch, I made each of the girls one hot pink bow clip for their hair a la Kitty.
I also printed out several basic Hello Kitty images onto card stock paper and laminated them. I included three different colors of washable markers in each box so that the girls could "design" outfits for their Kitty. Once they were done, a quick swipe of baby wipes, and the laminated Kitty was clean and ready for another outfit change.
I have a mild suspicion that Boo enjoyed herself.
But then, I'm her mother, and therefore good at picking up the subtle emotional signals of a five year old.

First of all, I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who needs to blog events from Oct/Nov! :) I hope to get that caught up after I clean up and get laundry done tomorrow...Hmm...wonder if I'll ever be done with that.
Anyway, that cake was frickin amazing, pukey color? ...whatever. It was adorable!!!! I love it. You are by far outdoing me in the birthday dept. Caleb's bdays are winding down...but I hope to plan something very cool for Meesh's 3rd. I hope Boo loves her extremely late bday card from the worst Auntie in the world. LOL Everyone knows that Lynn thinks she's the best!!!
I never had my nails painted as a kid :(
