While we have a small yarn store in my town, it's mostly acrylic yarns, and the owner is retiring, so there's not really any yarn in there that's very exciting. Visiting Yarniverse was a real treat!
I bought more than I should have, but that probably doesn't surprise anyone, does it? I had planned to buy some more Malabrigo to knit a Maunawili Falls Vest for my mum, but they didn't have the shade we wanted.
However, they had some really beautiful Koigu (that's a type of sock yarn), which I splurged on. ACK! That stuff is not cheap! For the price, it had better make me at least six inches taller and 15 inches thinner. I'm not used to spending $25 on a pair of socks (uh-oh, I hope Andy doesn't read this post . . .), but I figured, "hey, I'm on vacation, and it's spending money; why not spend it?"
I must be into socks right now, because I also bought three different skeins of Blue Sky Organic Cotton, the most plushable softness I have ever felt. It's scrumptious! The nice lady at the store gave me a free copy of a sock pattern for this yarn, and I'm hoping to knit house slippers with the stuff. My only worry is if this yarn will hold up. I hate knitting socks and then having them shred in a week. (Have you ever used this stuff? Should I do something else with it?)
Finally, I have a question for you lace knitters out there. I would like to start knitting Gerda's Stole, but I need to find 32" size 0 circular needles. I've tried using the Susan Bates brand, and I can't stand the join between the needle and the wire. I've debated getting Skacel's Addi Turbo needles. I've heard a few knitters rave about them. Do you think these are worth the money ($12.50 + s.h.), and where can I get them? What sort of lace needles have you used?Help, please!
