Needles and Flour

Every Friday the kids and I head out to the Asche/Leverton household to get some much-needed social interaction. Peter likes to play with his cousin Mariah (they're about the same age), and Breanna likes to be fussed over by her older cousin Mahaela. So what do I do while I'm there?

Knit, of course.

Poor Stephanie Asche and Rachel Leverton (yes, we share names) are probably so sick of my nagging them to start new knitting projects. "Leave us in peace!", they must say to themselves as I wave my needles under their noses. They are too nice to tell me off; or perhaps it's the fact that I'm usually wielding dangerous pointy needles while we're in conversation!

Whatever the case may be, I cannot believe the knitting prowess of my two friends. Rachel (who has only recently learned to knit) has made a dishcloth and a complicated scarf, and is now starting the Coronet Hat. Stephanie has knitted socks, hats, and scarves for her many boys, and also completed Fetching this afternoon. So why the picture of the beautifully braided bread? Well, Stephanie and Rachel recently purchased a grain mill so that they can use freshly ground organic flour in their cooking endeavors. I am the lucky recipient of their purchases, because they have graciously consented to sell me some flour as I need it.

Freshly ground flour has many more nutrients than store-bought flour, not to mention the taste is far superior. I got some flour from Red Grains and made this bread, which has oats and honey in it. Yummmy. I was teaching music as this loaf was in the oven baking, and it was difficult to concentrate on lessons with that delicious bread-smell wafting through the house.

Have you noticed that I have not posted about the Hawaiian Hula Dancer (weight loss ticker) this past Monday? This is why.

Baking bread-I love that smell-I think it's getting closer and closer to supper time! Yummy! Don't be discouraged about the hula dancer, okay! I struggle along with those issues too, and believe me-the more I obsess about it the worse I feel. Besides, we can't all be supermodels(lol!).

The loaf looks great!! My life as of late demands more use of the trusty (and much appreciated) bread machine. I'm jealous, though, of your convenient supply of freshly ground flour. Don't get discouraged... you've done great so far, and you'll continue to press on. I know it.

Mmmm...gotta love home made bread and the smell of it cooking!

I need to get on board with the weight loss thing too. I should jump on the scale and see if it's been affected yet (been trying not to eat as much)...though I doubt it cause I haven't really done a whole lot.

Lovely bread!

Blue Moons FA ordering:
Click on colors
Click on multiwave cirlce (left most one)
All the multiwave colors should be there. I ordered Nodding Violet and Henpecked.
Click on the color you like, and you should get a choice of 3 different yarn weights--I chose mid-weight, which is good for size 2-3 needles. One skein per pair of socks.

Good luck! I have also had wonderful results from shopping at www.simplysockyarn.com. Allison, the owner, offers free shipping on orders over $50--my friend Elsie and I will often split an order. She doesn't have STR, but she does have Cherry Tree Hill, Lorna's Laces, Fleece Artist Merino and Claudia's hand paints, all of which I can recommend as good to knit-wear-wash sock yarn.

Have fun!

Sniff, sniff...I love the smell of freshly baked bread. Yum. I love baking when it's chilly. It hasn't been really chilly here lately, though. :( I may get some baking in this week though. I love banana nut bread. Enjoy it!

Love, Ang
