Knitting Updates

I haven't had much time to knit lately, because of all the teaching I've been doing. I teach private music lessons in my home, and my students are preparing for their Spring recital. This year's recital theme is a Cultural Extravaganza, and the music is from all around the world. I think it will be a lot of fun. After the recital we always have refreshments, and some people will be bringing interesting ethnic foods to sample. I'll write more about this later, when I have more time to elaborate.

I finished some socks for myself. I knitted them with size 6 needles (instead of the recommended size 7) and just used the basic sock pattern. FINALLY, a sock I like! Usually my socks are too big, or they don't fit right through the ankle. These fit beautifully, and I reinforced the heel and toe with nylon thread, since the yarn I chose wasn't true "sock" yarn. The yarn was TLC Essentials in the Surf and Turf colorway. I really love the colors brown and blue together!

This is a stole I've adapted from a scarf pattern. The pattern is called "Falling Leaves", and is from an extra booklet from a past issue of Interweave Knits. I'm really liking the way this is knitting up. The colors are very pretty sea green and gold (the photo makes it look rather washed out). Two of my sweet students gave the yarn to me last Christmas, and I'm finally getting around to using it. Thanks, Katelyn and Shelbi!

Lastly, I have more yarn (yes, more yarn) that I've gotten from recycling an Express sweater. The color is a lovely eggshell blue, and the feel is incredibly soft. I've recycled a few sweaters before, but I wasted my time on cheap sweaters. This one will definitely be worth my time! I'm not sure what I will use it for, yet, although I'm toying with the idea of knitting another Gingerbread Baby Sweater and making it a size larger for my daughter.

More to knit, hooray!

Your socks are cute. I really love the "lace" type pattern of the stole you are knitting. I've always loved the leafy type patterns. Recycling yarn is an interesting idea, I haven't tried that yet.

The recital sounds so neat! I hope it goes well for all involved. Can't wait to hear how it goes. Love your stole; it's beautiful!

The shawl is really lovely!

I remember music recitals from when I was a kid. I was so shy I hated performing. I think your theme is a great idea; it will help the kids feel part of a whole. I hope it works out great!

I have thought of recycling older sweaters. Are there directions somewhere on how to go about it?

Grats on the completetion of the socks. Any tips on recycling the sweaters as far as a brand anyway? I recently tried to recycle a sweater and it was a disaster. I think it was due to buying a cheap one too! Have a great day.
