Handyman doesn't really have hobbies, in the normal sense of hobbies. He doesn't like tinkering around in his tool shed (most likely because playing with tools is his line of work). He does, however, enjoy the usual manly things like football and sports, along with gardening and playing disc golf.
However, he is not entirely sane when Morel Season comes around.
In this house, there are five seasons; Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Morel Season.
For two to three weeks, my husband spends every available moment with his favorite mushroom. He dreams of morels, spends considerable thought as to how best to carry them through the woods, and giggles like a girl when he thinks he's discovered the perfect hunting spot. If he learns that his brothers have found more than him (horrors), than he mopes around for hours like a moody teenager rejected at his first prom.
It's rather sweet, really, to see a 6"2" construction worker so beguiled by a wrinkled bit of fungus.
(Apologies to Handyman for refusing to upload the 30+ photos of morels in different positions and angles.)

I don't think I've ever seen a morel -- this was quite enlightening! BTW, Handyman is pretty handsome, too :)
Wow those look wonderful! Wish Hawaii had those.
That's hilarious. I think I'd include video gaming in his list of hobbies, though.
I remember seeing his eyes light up talking of morels a few months ago. Hee hee.
Now if you want to go wild asparagus hunting, count me in on that.
Very interesting -- I had never seen a morel before either... I had no idea they could be that big! He does look quite proud of his tray of morels. LOL Glad he enjoys them. ;)
I am curious... what do you DO with them once you (he) has found them.
Nice alternate use for the high chair tray...LOL. And yes, what do you do with them? Aren't they like expensive delicacies in restaurants or something? They are quite ruffly. :)
All I can do is laugh and smile as I read this. What a guy! :) Huge morels.
