Twink Comes to Town

A few weeks ago, I was absolutely thrilled to hear that my friend Twink was coming to visit us from her home country of Malaysia. Twink (yes, that's her real name. Cool, huh?) and I met in college, where she was a part time music student like me.After I graduated and moved up to the Frigid North with Handyman, we still kept in touch a bit. Imagine my delight to hear that she was coming to Chicago for a chiropractic conference (she's a chiropractor), and would be able to spend a few precious days with us!My kids were thoroughly delighted to meet "Auntie Twink", especially when she opened her suitcase and revealed all the goodies she brought for us from Malaysia! My kids are sweet, but at heart they're really just greedy mercenaries. They get it from Handyman, I'm sure.

Chubby Bubby and Auntie Twink hit it off like long lost buddies. After Twink left I had to "detox" him from being held 24/7.I wasn't left out either. She even had presents for me! She gave me the most beautiful orchid broach and a set of green earrings that I wear all the time. They go so nicely with my shawl. Have I ever mentioned my shawl? You know, the Bee Fields Shawl. I might have mentioned it here . . . and here . . . and here . . . and, oh never mind, - onward.Along with the broach and earrings came a beautiful purse. I feel so posh now it's shameful. Twink informed me that in Malaysia it's popular to tie silk scarves on the purse handles. When I remarked that I'd never seen that before, and how cool it looked, she smugly replied, "Of course. It's from Malaysia".I have to admit that before she came to visit, I was a little curious as to how we'd reconnect. After all, our lives are very different. She lives in a warm climate where the temperatures are always around 90 degrees, and I live in the Frigid North. She also loves scuba diving as a hobby, and I live in a land-locked state with a husband who's swimming style is really more accurately termed "prolonged drowning". (Twink's going to kill me for posting this shot of her, hee hee!)Somehow, though, none of that mattered. We live very different lives, but we have enough in common to maintain a great friendship. I'm so glad that we were able to meet up again after all these years, and we all miss her very much! Thanks for visiting, Auntie Twink!

(Oh, it's my fault she's in that doofy pose. I was trying to bribe her into modeling a scarf I knit. My knitting has that effect).

I would say that you are a very good friend to have people seek you out after years of separation.

Been a bit since I dropped by to check in. Thought I'd just say "Hi".

Looks like you just had a fun visit from your generous friend. I'm sure you all will miss her.

Baby Gabe's socks are really handsome and so is Handyman's hoodie :) I think a matching one for Peter would be very cute indeed.
