The Day After

This is a bit out of order in the chronological sense of things, but since sense and chronology rarely meet in my world, this blog post is right in keeping with Aloha Reality.

After my fun excursion in Atlanta for my sister Lynn's Bach Party, my Auntie Pauline and I had to head back to Greenville to meet up with the rest of my family.

First, of course, came breakfast. Having lived in the South for most of my life, I thought I knew just about everything Southern related. After my initial shock of fried pickles, I received another mind-blowing revelation in the form of Chicken and Waffles.
(No, those are not chicken and waffles. That's my sister Angie and my niece Meesh the Squeesh. They joined us for breakfast).

These are chicken and waffles.
Weird, huh? I suppose in the South they'll eat anything as long as it's fried and covered in syrup. Midwesterners are just as odd, with their love of deep fried candy bars. While I'm insulting different regions of the country, I might as well denigrate Hawaiian's love of poi, a mushy substance that looks and tastes much like wall-paper paste. Did I miss anyone?

*crickets chirping*

From Atlanta it was a 3 hour drive back to my babies, who by this time were in desperate need of their Mommy. I also was quite eager to get back home to resume my normal glamorous life of rearing angelic and grateful children who obey my every whim.

This meant, of course, that we had to stop for some essential shopping on the way. Souvenirs were needed, after all.

Vital stuff, souvenirs. Very vital.

My Auntie Pauline bought some youth-enhancing tea as a present for my Uncle Earl. I think she's planning to drown him in it.
Angie came along as well to enjoy the experience.
My favorite sight was these two shops side by side. The shop on the left is Angie's favorite store, and the shop on the right is Lynn's.

It's so nice to have two sisters who share so much in common.

Hey, at least the plate of chicken and waffles looks pretty.
I for one have never had a deep-fried pickle OR a deep-fried candy bar...
Hey I took Peter and the boys rhubarb picking this afternoon, and it's so funny.... I think only my kids and yours would become excited about rhubarb picking. Lol! :-)

I think Chicken and Waffles is an especially Atlantian thing...I've heard of it, but only on food shows about Atlanta.

Fried Pickles though, they're awesome. But only with a really good ranch dressing to dip in.

I could not resist coming out to see you all after the Bach Party. I love family gatherings and shopping. :)

I just wish I would have been more chipper though. I was fighting a nasty sinus infection and exhaustion from traveling the week before.

I love that both Lynn's and my fave stores are next to each other. I think I'll post a blog about it. :)

Oh...one last comment: Every time I drink tea...I think of you, Rach. It's our common link, I think. :) I was in Goodwill and saw a little cute brown teapot. Every time I use it, it reminds me of you. I pray for you and your sweet little angels. :)
